7 Reasons We Should Read The Bible

When I first gave my life to Jesus I began reading the New Testament. I knew that if I wanted to follow Jesus, I needed to know the full Gospel. When I needed wisdom I went to Proverbs. When I felt alone I went to Psalms. Many don’t understand how important it is to actually read the bible. To dig in to God’s words and apply it in our daily lives. Reading my bible is one way the Lord uses to speaks to me. I know I can come to Him and be encourage with His words. We cannot change and be a new person if we are not hungry for more of God. So why read the bible?

Here are 7 reasons to read the bible:

1. It keep us from sin.

When we are feeding ourselves with God’s word it help us overcome sin.

“…God is faithful. He won’t allow you to be tempted beyond your abilities. Instead, with the temptation, God will also supply a way out so that you will be able to endure it.” – 1 Corinthians 10:13

2. Hope

The bible is full of God’s promises. There is Hope in Jesus Christ.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

3. Wisdom

We all need wisdom to make better decisions in our lives.

Then you will understand what is right and just
    and fair—every good path.
For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Proverbs 2:9-10

4. Discernment

Discernment is very important to not be deceived by the enemy.  You can detect a lie from the enemy and declare truth over yourself. You may wonder whose voice you’re hearing—yours, the devil’s or God’s? You need to spend time with the Lord to learn to discern.

For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.  2 Corinthians 11:13-15

5. Hear God’s Voice

God speaks to us through his bible. It is full of revelation. We learn His voice when we spend time with Him. God’s voice is never contrary to His Word. Pray that the Lord will give you ears to hear and eyes to see.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.  John 10:27

He says, “Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know”  Jeremiah 33:3

6. Freedom and Healing

It will bring you freedom from hurt and healing to our souls. Jesus died on the cross so we can receive healing , deliverance and salvation.

The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. Psalm 34:17

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4

By His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

7. It is your Weapon

God says to put on the full armor of God. This is why is so important to read our bibles. When the day of the evil comes when I’m under attack, when I face trials or temptations- I will be able to stand my ground.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Ephesians 6:11-12
