I found myself on a wonderful journey and I desired that my children could experience a similar walk with God as well. As parents we are raising kingdom children who know their identity as a child of God. They all have a purpose, gifts, and a calling to fulfill and grow in it. As a mom I want to make sure I’m helping my kids grow in their passions and develop their gifts, because God is the one who put those passions in our kids. Every child connects with God differently. If it’s through dancing, singing, writing or painting having God at the center of it all is the most important thing. I want to help my kids learn how God speaks to them specifically. So here are 6 ways to involve God in your kids life.
Proverbs 22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it
- PRAY TOGETHER
This one is probably the most obvious but one of the most important ones of all. Prayer is so powerful. My family and I have witnessed so many prayers answered. God is always listening and watching over all of us. He knows what is in our hearts and is ready to move when we ask him in prayer. We love taking turns praying over each other and thanking God for all the wonderful things he have done in our lives.
Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
2. WORSHIP
Worshiping together as a family. Is not about singing but its about connecting to God. These are one of the ways my kids feel God’s presence so powerful that is undeniable. We can even feel the atmosphere shift as we start to worship. Encounters start to happen when we are in God’s presence. We praise Him even in the storm and in return we receive his peace in every situation. My daughter has found her passion in worship since we decided to do it as a family.
Isaiah 25:1 Lord, you are my God;
I will exalt you and praise your name,
for in perfect faithfulness
you have done wonderful things,
things planned long ago.
3. BIBLE STORIES
We have read bible stories to my daughter since she was a baby. We also love acting scenes out together and it’s so much fun! Now she loves to tell her friends about Jesus’ miracles of healing and deliverance. Its so important our kids grow up knowing who God is and so they can find comfort in his word and promises during our everyday trials. So they can walk and grow in discernment and wisdom.
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
4. PROPHETIC PAINTINGS
Our God is so creative and one of the way He speaks is through the gift of prophecy. Its like putting creativity and prophecy together in a visual expression. Prophetic paintings are so much fun! It’s one of our favorites activities to do and include God in it. Prophetic painting is when we spend time worshiping and asking God to speak to us. To give us a picture of what we should paint.
Like Jeremiah he was given a vision. The prophet Jeremiah saw pictures, like snapshots.
Jeremiah 1:11-12 The word of the Lord came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?” “I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied. 12 The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching[a] to see that my word is fulfilled.”
5. NATURE WALK
I’m a visual person and I love to admire everything God has created like the mountains, flowers, ocean, sky, and all the animals. I recently bought my daughter a small kid camera and she loves to take pictures of God’s creation. We even stop to pray, worship and even talk to God during our nature walks. God loves and wants to spend time with us in his presence wherever we go. We sometimes even bring our sketchbook or watercolor paint and draw what we see as we explore with beautiful worship music playing in the background.
Psalm 95:4-5 In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
6. DREAMS
I love this topic. God is speaking to us through dreams! Yes, our dreams can be literal sometimes but also symbolic! Full of symbolism and parables. When my daughter has a dream she comes running to me so I can write it down for her to later get an interpretation. Having a journal just for them is so special to them. I know my brother in law likes drawing his dreams in a journal. We love knowing what God tells us through dreams. My daughter feels very known and special to our Father. It brings a smile to her face knowing God is watching and protecting her and even confirming things that are in her heart. God’s voice will always sound LOVING and ENCOURAGING.
And it shall come to pass in the last days,” saith God, “I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams” (Acts 2:17).
Prayer: Father God, I praise you and I’m thankful for giving me (child’s name). I thank you for protecting them. I pray that you give them a desire to get to know you more. That they will seek after wisdom and discernment. That my children will hear and recognize your voice and that they will not depart from you. In Jesus name, lord I pray that you fill me with your spirit today so that I may have patience and show them love. Lead me so that I can guide them in your ways. Amen.
I love how simple and to the point this is but how powerful it actually is to with your children because your setting them up with the most important tools for all situations they will all face in their lives, who are they? What are they here for? And who they can go to for truth in all situations, who can chnage their atmospheres and situations, and how they can obtain help, hope, peace, joy, fulfillment, love, and everything in every situation, big or small! Love you Norma your a world changer; raising world changers.
